Math Time in K
During Math Centers students play games and use manipulatives to develop the following skills:
- recognizing equal quantities in different arrangements.
- counting and comparing sets.
- developing an understanding of addition
- sorting and classifying objects in different ways.
- comparing, analyzing, and discussing a variety of sorted collections they created.
Recess Fun
We go outside for recess twice a day whenever the weather allows. Please send warm gear for your child each day. The mornings tend to be colder and hat and mittens are suggested as we are often outside when it is 40 or cooler degrees. Please also help your child work on zipping skills and independence when putting on their jackets. Thank you!
Choice Time (Free Play and Social Skill Building Time)
Science Time
We have been observing the changes of seasons. This tree sits right outside of our classroom and it is the perfect tree to observe all of New England's seasons. We observed and recorded our observations with drawings of this tree. We did this in September as it was still a "summer" tree and we will do it again in Winter and then in the Spring.
Literacy Time
The last few weeks have included lessons on syllables, rhyming, beginning sounds and recognizing the difference between words, letters and sentences. They also practiced reading to self. In these pictures you will see students segmenting syllables in words with play doh balls, and sorting letters, words and sentences. They also are going on a rhyming word hunt around the classroom with clipboards, building spiders for the letter /s/ and reading. Below is a fun lesson song we have used to talk about the parts of a sentence and a song we use to listen for rhyming words.
