Robinson School Kindergarten
Literacy and math instruction occur daily, and are integrated into daily routines and centers. For Language Arts instruction, we use a wide variety of high quality children’s literature, the Wright Group reading program for shared and guided reading, the Fountas and Pinnell phonics program and the Lucy Calkins Writing Curriculum. Several years ago we are added the Lively Letters letter sound program. Our math curriculum is Everyday Mathematics, which has as its mission for children to learn more mathematical content and become life-long mathematical thinkers. Handwriting is taught using the Handwriting Without Tears program.
In addition, the Social Studies and Science programs are integrated into our centers, as well as is our social competency curriculum, Peace-It-Together. Ms. Terrio, our guidance counselor, visits monthly with lessons and supports the children with friendship groups on an as needed basis. Please understand that we are responsive to the developmental needs of the children in our classes; as such, some teachers may spend more or less time on some concepts as needed.
Another part of our Science curriculum are our hikes on the Robifulli Trail. We enjoy seasonal hikes on the trails between our school, the Crisafulli School and Westford Academy. Being outside and enjoying nature, right in our own backyard, enhances what we do in the classroom!
