Celebrating 100 Days in K!
We celebrated the 100th day of school before the vacation week. It's hard to believe we are over half way through Kindergarten. Students and staff had a great time dressing up as 100 year old people on this day. Check out some of the great costumes below! I have also included a link to a song we listened to as part of our celebration that day. It is a great way to build your child's counting and number recognition.

Below iWe have transitioned from rest time to yoga time. Your children no longer need to bring towels or blankets to school. Their yoga mats are sufficient for the yoga time. The main purpose of yoga in your child's school day is to get students ready to re-enter their learning environments after being in a very over stimulating environment such as the cafeteria.
Each day after lunch our class engages in a 10-15 minute yoga session. The routine of having recess, eating lunch, coming into a dark and quiet room for yoga, followed by a story helps the students get ready to learn when they return to the classroom. I mainly use Cosmic Kids Yoga lessons during this time and I am pleased to see how many mindfulness practices are embedded into these yoga lessons. Yoga is essentially a practice of “mindfulness in motion.” Yoga uses the body to promote awareness of the present moment. Over the last month children have become very skilled in a variety of yoga poses and mindfulness practices. Below is a sample.

Coming up....
Author Study: EZRA JACK KEATS
We will begin an author study of Ezra Jack Keats next week. During this time we will read many of his books and talk about the ways they are similar. Many of them tell the story of a boy named Peter (first met in The Snowy Day) and his neighborhood.
We will use his books to start our study of our community. We will build our own “communities” on our bulletin board using Keats style of illustrating. During March students will create their homes and some buildings in Westford. For a good home-school connection, check out some Ezra Jack Keats books from the library!
